Global Micro Solutions: Connecting Cloud Services to PSA and Sage for Accurate Usage Billing

Global Micro Solutions is a South African cloud service provider serving more than 4,500 customers, with infrastructure scaled to support 300,000 users. Its portfolio spans email management through to complex hybrid cloud solutions.

The Challenge

Disparate Cloud Systems, One Billing Standard

Global Micro delivers multiple best of breed cloud services. Customers expect one accountable provider and one accurate bill. That required a consistent way to move usage and account data from many cloud systems into two core business applications, ConnectWise for professional services automation and Sage Evolution for accounting.

As CEO JJ Milner explained, “We are a single-source cloud service provider that offers best-of-breed solutions to our customers. These solutions are usually not integrated, but our customers expect us to be accountable for the entire value chain. We needed a platform to slipstream the solutions together without getting integration fatigue.”

A reliable metering and billing process was central to this goal. “Our business uses ConnectWise and Sage Evolution to give us the information we require to bill for usage accurately and timeously, and to plan for future growth,” said Milner.

Our customers expect us to be accountable for the entire value chain. We needed a platform to slipstream the solutions together without integration fatigue.

Cloud usage to PSA and finance

Flowgear orchestrates data from many cloud services into ConnectWise and Sage Evolution through 500+ active workflows, ensuring usage, billing, and financial records stay aligned.

The Solution

Flow of Usage and Account Data into PSA and Finance

Global Micro selected Flowgear to orchestrate data across its cloud services, ConnectWise, and Sage Evolution. “Flowgear has a long history of supporting the service provider industry ,” said CEO JJ Milner, “so it was an easier decision to use Flowgear for our requirements.”

Today, the company runs more than 500 integration workflows on Flowgear, almost continuously. These workflows bring data from multiple systems into one place, then route it into ConnectWise and Sage so that usage, billing, and financial records align.

Milner highlighted the value of expert help alongside the platform. “What we’ve found valuable in Flowgear as an integration platform is that it has a professional services team. This allows us to not only use their library of standard enterprise integration patterns, but also we can turn to Flowgear to help us build unique integrations which give us competitive advantage,” he said. “Their professional services staff know how ERP and accounting systems work, and also have the technical knowledge and experience to work with specialized solutions like cloud and telco applications.”

The Results

Accurate Billing, Unified Operations, Customer Confidence

With Flowgear in place, Global Micro can operate many services while presenting one clear source of truth for billing and finance.

  • Usage data flows into ConnectWise and Sage, which support accurate and timely invoicing.
  • More than 500 active workflows coordinate many systems inside one platform.
  • The company delivers stronger migration and coexistence offerings for customers, which has contributed to multi-year recognition as Microsoft’s hosting partner of the year.
Unified billing and operations

Accurate usage data now supports clear, timely invoicing.

Flowgear and its professional services team let us combine standard patterns with unique integrations that give us competitive advantage,” said Milner.

Scaling with confidence

Global Micro is using the same architecture to expand services and scale customers, adding new cloud systems without disrupting billing or finance.

Looking Ahead

Integration foundation enables scalable, unified cloud growth.

Global Micro continues to build on the same integration foundation as it expands services and customer scale. The combination of a broad workflow library, advisory support, and repeatable patterns gives the team a path to add or adapt cloud services without fragmenting billing and finance processes.

Flowgear, the agile integration platform, enables Global Micro Solutions, South Africa’s most experienced cloud service provider, to automate and orchestrate the integration of disparate cloud systems with PSA software, ConnectWise, and Sage Evolution accounting software. Global Micro Solutions is South Africa’s most experienced cloud service provider, providing IT solutions to over 4500 customers with infrastructure scaled to support 300,000 users. Its solutions range from email management to complex hybrid cloud solutions. Explaining the need for an integration solution, CEO JJ Milner commented “We are a single-source cloud service provider that offers best-of-breed solutions to our customers. These solutions are usually not integrated, but our customers expect us to be accountable for the entire value chain. We needed a platform to slipstream the solutions together without getting integration fatigue.” A core competence of a cloud service provider is the ability to meter and bill for the use of its services. That meant the company needed to integrate data from its cloud solutions with ConnectWise, a professional services automation (PSA) application, and with Sage Evolution for finance management. “Our business uses ConnectWise and Sage Evolution to give us the information we require to bill for usage accurately and timeously, and to plan for future growth,” said Milner. “Flowgear has a long history of supporting the service provider industry ,” said CEO JJ Milner, “so it was an easier decision to use Flowgear for our requirements.” At last count, the company had over 500 integration workflows running almost continuously on the Flowgear integration platform. The advantage of using Flowgear is that it orchestrates multiple disparate systems into one platform. This has given Global Micro Solutions the ability to offer superior migration and co-existence solutions to customers, and has been an integral part of our multi-year recognition as Microsoft’s hosting partner of the year. “What we’ve found valuable in Flowgear as an integration platform is that it has a professional services team. This allows us to not only use their library of standard enterprise integration patterns, but also we can turn to Flowgear to help us build unique integrations which give us competitive advantage,” said Milner. “Their professional services staff know how ERP and accounting systems work, and also have the technical knowledge and experience to work with specialized solutions like cloud and telco applications.”
