How SA Premix automated complex production job creation, live in three months.
SA Premix, part of the AECI group, develops and manufactures nutritional additives for the agricultural and veterinary market. To serve customers better, the company launched an online e-commerce portal, but needed to connect orders directly into the Work In Progress (WIP) module of its SYSPRO ERP. Many of its orders involve highly specific custom formulations that would be impractical to key in manually at any meaningful volume.
Custom formulations at volume, manual capture was never going to work
Once customers placed orders on the e-commerce portal, those orders, often with complex, unique formulations, had to be converted into production jobs inside SYSPRO's WIP module. IT Manager George Hayter was clear: manually adding these jobs into WIP was simply not viable. A reliable, scalable integration was essential.
Hayter had two paths: build a hand-coded integration from scratch, or adopt an integration platform recommended by a SYSPRO consultant. The scale and complexity of the formulation data made getting this right the first time critical.
Live in three months - 100 workflows built and tested before go-live
SA Premix began trialling Flowgear in January 2016 and went live in April, three months later. During that period the IT team built and tested more than 100 workflows covering the different integration requirements and scenarios the business needed to handle.
The process is straightforward in operation: orders captured on the e-commerce portal, including their formulation requirements, are converted by Flowgear into structured jobs inside SYSPRO WIP. The workflows run automatically, removing manual entry from the process entirely.
2,500 jobs in two months, zero errors
Within the first two months after go-live, Flowgear's workflows had generated more than 2,500 jobs in SYSPRO WIP. Complex formulations were handled without manual bottlenecks, and the absence of errors was central to the customer service standard SA Premix aims to deliver.
- Went live in three months from trial to production
- Over 100 workflows built and tested before go-live
- More than 2,500 SYSPRO WIP jobs created in the first two months
- Complex custom formulations handled automatically, no manual entry
- Faster order-to-production cycle with improved customer service
“In the first two months after we went live, our integration workflows created over 2,500 jobs in SYSPRO. Being able to do that without errors is important for the customer service we aim to deliver.”
From order automation to factory floor data
With the e-commerce-to-SYSPRO layer running reliably, SA Premix is preparing to extend Flowgear to the factory floor, capturing data from PLCs (programmable logic controllers) to monitor and control machinery directly through the same integration layer.
