How The Ian Martin Group made integration a shared capability across analysts and developers.
The Ian Martin Group is a Toronto-based recruitment and project staffing firm serving Fortune 500 clients and supporting more than 1,200 contractors. In 2014 the company began a program to modernize its core processes using best-of-breed software, selecting Bullhorn for candidate management and Zendesk for customer support, and needing those two systems to work as one.
Best-of-breed tools that could not talk to each other
Choosing specialist applications for recruitment and support was the right decision for capability, but it created an integration gap. The two systems had to exchange data and stay consistent without the team building and maintaining custom code. CEO Tim Masson framed it clearly: "Instead of trying to write our own integrations, we decided to buy rather than build."
What the team needed was a platform that analysts could pick up quickly without intensive training, that gave a visual view of data flows, and that could enforce validation rules inside Bullhorn to protect data integrity.
A visual designer that brought analysts and developers together
The Ian Martin Group implemented Flowgear to connect Bullhorn and Zendesk and to enforce data-quality rules. The graphical designer let analysts map data flows and see processes working visually, not just in a flow chart, which meant integration work was no longer a developer-only activity.
More than 20 workflows were built between the two systems, covering data synchronization and validation controls that keep Bullhorn records clean and usable.
Faster delivery, cleaner data, and a reusable platform
Flowgear became a core part of the business modernization effort. With the initial workflows in place, the team can apply the same patterns to additional recruiting and support processes, delivering new integrations faster from a shared visual foundation.
- Over 20 live integration workflows between Bullhorn and Zendesk
- Business analysts participate directly using the visual designer
- Validation rules maintain data integrity inside Bullhorn
- Shared patterns available for faster rollout of future integrations
“Flowgear's integration platform has been a key tool in our business transition project and we couldn't have re-designed our processes without it.”
Shared patterns enable faster, scalable new integrations
With the initial workflows in place, the team can apply the same visual patterns to additional recruiting and support processes. New integrations can be delivered faster, with analysts and developers working from the same view.
